CAC Marks 30th Anniversary at Annual Meeting
This year marks CAC’s 30th year of service to the community! At the 2017 CAC Annual Meeting the congregations that founded CAC as well as all 33 congregations that have supported over the years were recognized for their efforts.
CAC was initiated in 1986 in response to an increasing number of people in our community seeking assistance. Representatives from First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church, Sandy Springs Christian Church and St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church served as initial commission members and established CAC’s mission, created the structure for the agency and garnered broader-based support for the effort. When the then-named Community Action Center (CAC) opened in 1987 there were 10 supporting congregations on board.
Since CAC was founded, 33 congregations of all faiths have supported efforts to help neighbors with basic needs. Their support, combined with support from throughout the community, has assisted more than 19,000 families with homeless prevention, food, clothing, adult education and more.
Increases in requests for assistance and the growth of programs at CAC over the years have created a need for more space for the agency. CAC announced at the Annual Meeting its $2 Million Building Hope Campaign. The capital campaign will fund a new building for expansion of services and satellite sites so that CAC can better serve the community in the future.
