A Brief History
Community Action Center (CAC) was founded in 1987 by 10 area churches seeking an independent agency to respond to requests for emergency assistance from neighbors in need. Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church provided the building and operating expenses and Holy Innocents Episcopal Church provided the seed money.
Today, CAC has 26 sponsoring congregations of many faiths as well as strong relationships with area schools, organizations and businesses.
CAC provides assistance to individuals and families who reside in ZIP codes 30327, 30328, 30338, 30342, 30346, and 30350.
By providing targeted assistance to families during times of unexpected personal financial crisis, CAC strives to reduce the number of families and individuals who become homeless and/or are unable to provide for basic necessities such as
utilities, food, clothing and medication.
