Our youth programs assist the lives of local children whose families are facing difficult times. We serve children whose families can’t afford to give them what many other children have; lunches in the summer months, new back packs with school supplies and gifts during the holidays.
CAC 's annual backpack and school supply drive is underway! With your donations CAC expects to prepare 1,000 local children for the start of school with the tools they need to learn!
The Back-to-School program provides new backpacks filled with school supplies per grade free to children of families in need. This summer CAC is seeking 1,000 new backpacks and school supplies to distribute to local students. A portion of the school supplies is being funded by an anonymous donor from Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church and matching donations for the third consecutive year. Backpacks and additional supplies are needed. Please bring supplies and new, large-sized, heavy duty backpacks to CAC or make a donation online. Most needed supplies include notebook paper, composition notebooks and 3 ring binders. Your donations will help a student start the year prepared to learn!
In 2013 CAC distributed about 1,000 backpacks with supplies to students for the start of the new school year. Excess supplies are then offered to teachers to use in their classrooms through the Teacher’s Closet program. We rely on donations from the community to provide these tools for children and teachers. Donations are accepted year-round. Backpacks are distributed in late July/early August.
CAC in conjunction with the Sandy Springs Education Force provides free school supplies to teachers in Sandy Sprngs schools who have students whose families cannot afford to purchase supplies. This program provides needy students with the supplies they need to learn and elimates the need for teachers to spend their own funds on school supplies. Supplies are limited to availability and the number of economically disadvantaged students in each classroom. All school supplies are donated. Classroom Supplies Request Form.
Summer Lunch Bag
Summers are particularly stressful for families that are already struggling to make ends meet. Often these families receive free or reduced price school lunches to help feed their children during the school year. The Summer Lunch Bag program helps these families off-set summer grocery costs by providing children with lunch for a week. We rely on food drives to collect food for summer lunches. This program also makes for great group projects, to collect the food and assemble it into bags containing 5 lunches each. We accept donations for this program from April through July.

The Adopt-a-Family program allows donors to anonymously “adopt” families off our website and give holiday gifts to children based on their wish lists. The CAC Adopt-a-Family holiday program is a great success, in 2013 about 1,000 children from local families were adopted for holiday gifts! More than 500 individual donors, congregations and businesses participated in adopting children. This program runs from October through December.
