Comment Period & Public Hearing on City 2019 Annual Action Plan

The City of Sandy Springs public comment period for the 2019 Annual Action Plan and the 2019 Citizen Participation Plan Amendment is open from March 21, 2019 through April 21, 2019. The next Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. The draft can be found here; hard copies have been placed at the Dorothy C. Benson Sr. Multipurpose Complex (6500 Vernon Woods Dr NE), the Community Assistance Center (1130 Hightower Trail),  and Sandy Springs City Hall (1 Galambos Way).  More information and any updates regarding the CDBG program are available on the city of Sandy Springs website.

The Annual Action Plan describes how the City intends to use its 2019 federal Community Development Block Grant allocation to achieve the broad goals described in the City’s 2018-2022 Consolidated Plan. The City of Sandy Springs anticipates receiving approximately $550,000 in CDBG funds along with approximately $1.4 million of Section 108 funds in the 2019 Fiscal Year.

The Consolidated Plan is a 5-year plan which describes the City’s community development priorities and multiyear goals based on an assessment of housing and community development needs, an analysis of housing and economic market conditions, and available resources. The Consolidated Plan is carried out through action plans, which are adopted annually. Each Annual Action Plan provides a concise summary of the actions, activities, and the specific federal and non-federal resources that will be used each year to address the priority needs and specific goals identified by the Consolidated Plan.

Since the submittal of the 2018 Annual Action Plan, the City completed Phase II of the Northridge Road Sidewalk Enhancement Project along Northern Roswell Road. Staff is now focusing on the implementation of South Roswell Road Multiyear Sidewalk Project, specifically the area south of I-285 (Phase III). The City plans on dedicating its 2019 CDBG fund allocation to continuing with Phase III to include right-of-way appraisals and acquisition, installation of street lighting, handicapped ramps and brick pavers from I-285 down to Long Island Drive.

All comments, questions and concerns can be sent directly to ltovar@sandyspringsga.gov or can be sent to the City’s dedicated CDBG e-mail: cdbgprogram@sandysprings.gagov
