How You Can Help Your Neighbors Impacted by the Coronavirus
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began CAC’s priority has been to serve families and individuals who have been hit the hardest by a loss of income needed to sustain their families. CAC is concentrating efforts on giving food to families that need support and providing financial assistance so they can remain in their homes.
Many people have already come forward to support our effort to help those in our community who are struggling during these unprecedented times. Thank you! Since the COVID crisis began CAC receiving 4 times as many requests for help than in the past. We will stay ahead of the demand with your support. Please consider making a financial donation to CAC to provide rent assistance or food. You may also give food or volunteer.

Consider joining our volunteer team onsite or online! CAC takes safety measures for the health of everyone at CAC facilities that include required masks, temperature checks and social distancing. New and previous volunteers ages 15 and older are welcome for onsite volunteering. Individuals 65 and older may make a personal determination about volunteering based on their comfort level. Medically fragile individuals are required to continue to stay at home due to COVID-19. Onsite volunteers are most needed Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm for 3 or 4 hour shifts. Volunteers would ideally be able to commit to a regular schedule such as once a week since positions require training. We also have opportunities for work from home online. Food Pantry Check-In and Check-Out
These positions entail working outside at 8607 Roswell Rd, talking to new and existing clients in person to verify identification, weigh outgoing food and using a computer. Training provided. Shifts available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Food Pantry Distribution and Donation Processing
Keep outdoor market shelves stocked with staples, help distribute refrigerated food to clients, Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
Receive and process large deliveries. Stock and organize shelves, fridges and freezers. Involves some lifting, Monday – Saturday.
Thrift Shop Sales Clerks
Serve as sales clerks and operate the register for sales, help shoppers as needed and help stock the retail floor.
Thrift Shop Donation Sorters/Pricers
Receive donations, sort, price and hang donations of clothing and home goods and stock the retail floor.
Adult Education Teachers
Teach ESOL/English, computer and personal financial managment classes remotely using Zoom video conferencing.
Financial Assistance/Client Interviewers
Work with potential clients by phone and by email on financial assistance requests.
The following skills are required for financial assistance interviewers:
Compassion that enables the interviewer to listen and discern clients’ needs, situation, and what CAC can do to best help them. This is often an emotional time for a client, and being a good listener, able to read between the lines and discern the facts and what’s needed to support the case is critical.
Communication skills – the ability of listening, speaking, observing and empathizing clearly and as intended so clients receive the support they need in their time of crisis.
Strong organization skills – the ability to maintain and organize client information and documents in way that’s easy to track.
Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe, internet usage, Gmail, downloading and saving documents sent in a variety of methods (pics, scans). Coaching some clients on how to attach docs, complete CAC docs online. You must have a computer, internet connection and a phone line. You must at least be comfortable navigating the internet and using Microsoft office.
